About Ryedale I.B.C.

Ryedale Indoor Bowls Club is a triumph for community effort. Previously the site in Norton-on-Derwent, Malton was owned and operated by Ryedale District Council. However, in 2013 the council decided that because the facility was uneconomic it should be closed and the site sold. A determined effort by members of the club and local community resulted in the site being purchased for the community and re-opened as the Ryedale Community and Leisure Centre. After extensive refurbishment in autumn 2014, during which the number of rinks was reduced to five, the club re-opened.

It steadily built up membership – with the social sessions proving particularly popular until the spring of 2020 when, like many facilities it was hit hard by the restrictions imposed to stop the spread of Covid-19. However, the club has proved resilient and no only did it survive the enforced break but took the opportunity to make improvements. The club can boast a new bowling mat, new surrounds, improved lighting and scoreboards. Now, during the 2023/24 season the club looks confidently towards the future.

In league bowls it is important to get close to the (yellow) jack

Social Bowling is more about relaxing than winning

Social Bowling
A quick, easy and fun way to learn bowls and meet other people is to join one of the Social Bowling sessions. These provide a friendly and relaxing introduction to indoor bowls. Through the winter there are social sessions:

Monday, Tuesday 2.00 – 4.00pm, Thursday, Sunday10.30 – 12.30pm,

The sessions accommodate all levels of skill. New bowlers can take part in two free ‘taster’ sessions and may use club bowls and shoes if desired.

In the summer season when most ‘serious’ bowlers play outdoors, there are no league competitions but there are social sessions on

Tuesday, Thursday and (most) Sunday mornings from 10.30 until 12.30pm.

Private Sessions
When not used for reserved sessions the rinks are available for use by both members and non-members.
